Survival guide for the 6-sensed

Sensitives, Empaths, Clair . . anything: all these are alternative names for those with 6 rather than 5 senses. Some of us were born with our 6th sense turned on - and often UP - and some of us practi..

1) Understanding your gift

Yes I know, feels more like a curse sometimes right? But that’s only because you’re having a 6-sensed human experience in a 5-sensed world – and the 5-sensed created this world without any idea that any other configuration of human would need to live in it.
So understand what’s happening.
Instead of the standard 5 senses, you have 6 – like a satellite dish attached to your being and at all times you are receiving a or many streams of information that “normals” around you do not perceive. Your brain takes that information and TRANSLATES it, through the most comfortable or most efficient pathways – for you. So some individuals will “see” things, like an overlay over what is tangible around then, others will “hear” or feel. Sometimes knowing turns up like an image projected on a screen in our minds. Each person’s experience can be unique and this translation pathway can be diverted or expanded as we respond to it.
I imagine most of us “saw” at some stage, but I admit that in my experience the presence of someone in an otherwise “empthy” room was not comfortable for me. My fright response shut down that pathway and so my brain found more comfortable pathways through which to translate the information I was receiving through my 6th sense. You CAN ask your brain to try a different pathway if one is uncomfortable, and in my experience, it will.

Your brain will translate information in a language specific to your mind. If you have an image for danger, and that flashes in your mind, then you are receiving a warning of danger and can respond to that, but your friend might not associate that image with danger and so to them, the message of danger would be delivered differently. Therefore, asking people what this or that image means and why you saw it or dreamt of it is unlikely to take you to the meaning of the message as your unique brain with all its unique experience will use imagery that will be meaningful to you – not necessarily to everyone else.
TRANSLATION is the step where most messages go awry – firstly because we try to understand information through other people when its uniquely referencing our own internal language, and also because of our preconceived notions.
Your great-grandmother that you never met could be showing up to say hello, sharing memories of her life with you in another part of the world – sharing with you her experience. You can receive this information, store it, and one day find yourself drawn to a place with the same vistas as she shared with you and reveling in the “remembering” of that place and the feeling of it. From this you could conclude that you have been there in a “previous life” (if you believe in such things) – when actually it is your great-grandmothers memories you are accessing. Children often share the memories of people guiding and supporting their early years and “people” say this is proof of re-incarnation, but really we are just sharing pictures and experiences with souls who have passed on.

So by understanding what a personal journey translation is, feel through the possibilities and keep it simple. There is so much noise “out there” about the 6th sense and what it gives us access to, but lets try to keep it rational and grounded. We are afterall here to have a human experience, therefore additional information we are receiving must be linked to a question we are asking, or a surrounding we are experiencing. It makes no sense for King Tut to show up in your bedroom 5 minutes before you leave for work at a hair salon and wax lyrical about his experiences as a war-lord. As much as we are accessing a sense outside of “normal” experience, there is always going to be some logic, some present need for it.

2) Understand the boundaries of your belief system

Those who were raised in Churches often conclude that the information they receive must come from Angels – and while I’m not doubting that Angels might be attending to certain issues, sometimes its just your great great great grandmother showing you how best to bake that family recipe.
Some parts of the world that have held onto traditional wisdom have set understandings about how a 6th sense will manifest – and because the members of that group have heard that told of, that is often just how their 6th sense manifests. But just because yours comes out in a different way, doesn’t make it any less relevant or real. We are also not confined to certain pathways, we can develop others.
Some tribes in Africa believe that speaking with Ancestors requires the use of a herb or mushroom – and so often, for members of that tribe it does, whereas others can access the lines of communication without any herbs or stimulants. So it’s a worthy path of enquiry to figure out what YOU believe about communication with the other world or receiving information from the other world – because our beliefs can colour or limit our experience – they can also provide comfortable introductory expectations however so there’s no need to throw the baby out with the bath water, just stay open to expansion.

3) Avoid illogical complexity

Life is pretty simple. When we explore the world of feeling for example, things that feel soft and smooth and comfortable are generally good things; whereas sharp or hot feelings are warnings of impending danger. Trust that.
If there is some process or experience on the path of exporing your 6th sense that feels “wrong” or uncomfortable – even if the teachers in your environment assure you that they are necessary – stop. Trust yourself. We have within us all the instincts to guide our progress and they work very well, when we listen to them.

4) Stick to the KNOWN

If someone you meet makes you uncomfortable – you just feel there is something “wrong” here, be careful not to give that experience too broad a definition. You could interpret that experience for example as this person is evil and everyone should stay away from them – but that really wasn’t what your intuition was saying; in that moment, on that day, perhaps YOU needed to steer clear of that individual. You may meet them again in another setting and they may seem perfectly harmless, so be careful of reaching too far beyond the information you directly receive.

5) Go into nature A LOT and ground everyday

We have manifested these human forms for this human experience and they are electric – literally. The emergence of our 6th sense makes it even more important that we keep ourselves healthy and grounded to ensure clarity in our translation. Standing ON the earth – even for just a few minutes a day – in bare feet – actually grounds us and clears and balances our energy.

Develop tools – like EFT, meditation (TM or Reiki are good ones), Sedona Method or any others that you feel drawn to – that help you to clear up and balance your energetic self. Make sure you injest enough vital minerals like Magnesium to keep your neural pathways clear and active and care for your physical form.
Translating the 6th sense (and even denying or ignoring it) takes more energy than anyone can truly calculate so staying clear, balanced and healthy is vital for the clarity you will need to harness your 6th sense positively in your everyday life.

6) Look for relevance.

The question always needs to be asked: How will this help me in my daily experience?
The unknown and mystical can be an exciting adventure, but ultimately the purpose of knowledge and learning is to create BETTER lives and BETTER states of being. Taking a course on Gothic Calligraphy just might not be the best use of your time – unless you do automatic writing . .. but even then . . . .
There are no MUSTS or HAVE TO’s on this journey. Stay grounded and look for what feels better – for you. It simply isn’t true that all meaningful growth is painful or that we must all suffer to achieve anything – those ideas are all part of legacy faulty belief systems that we can look at in step 2 (above). Life is far more user-friendly than that. If something makes you feel uncomfortable its usually because its not your path right now, or you have some belief system that is skewing your perspective. Either way it would be better to clean up your perspective and try again later than push through – ignoring your feelings of discomfort.

I often get the question from students and clients: I see this or feel that – what does it mean? And my answer will always be: What does it mean to YOU? – because ultimately all information received through the 6th sense is uniquely tailored for YOUR understanding. Tools like cards or pendulums can help enormously at first – muscle testing is also a great benefit for testing intuition, but remember not to become dependent on outside tools, the goal here is to expand your ability to receive and translate – increasing your internal capacity.

This really IS an inward journey and it can have wonderous rewards, just remember that it all has to support your present HUMAN EXPERIENCE, or its simply irrelevant and not worth your time and attention.

7) BE what you want to experience

Many 6-sensed individuals become harsh and brittle, the pain of living in the world wears them down and they live life knives out, always on the offensive. This is an easy trap to fall into but when we allow this we become part of the world we wish was different. If your experience of living has made you long for a kinder, gentler world, then craft your experience in such a way that allows you to BE what you wish others would be. This might mean less exposure to certain kinds of people but if it preserves your sensitivity and gentleness it will be well worth the effort – for the world, not only for just you.

? Find your PEEPS

Stay open to like-minded others and as difficult as it might seem, attend gatherings that catch your eye and call to you. Meet others with gifts of their own and find the circle of people that nurture your spirit. Sensitives tend to isolate to protect themselves and while that’s a good impulse – to stay away from harsh and unkind others – stay open to kind nurturing people, they are out there and you’ll likely never find them in your kitchen. So venturing out is still a good idea when it feels ok to do so, trust your intuition and you will find those that can be companions on the next steps of your journey.

9) Nurture your spirit

Find a spiritual path, or create one! Have a form that includes some prayer (connecting with the divine) and some meditation everyday. In the simplest terms, if we are all heading light-wards, and you actively create rituals that keep you facing towards the light, then the shadows will always be behind you. We all need the assurance of a higher power – whatever words you use for that, nature your relationship with that Higher Power in whatever way feels uplifting to you.
In this area of exploration especially – but in in life’s journeys generally, there are so many unknowns that those without a safety-rope are often lost. Find your relationship to the Divine, through whatever form feels true and nurturing to you, and allow it to be your anchor. We need not fear them but there ARE unhealthy forces and intentions out there, preying on the rudderless so ensuring you have the safety of a solid connection to the Light is vital to defer their interference on your path.

This journey is exciting, empowering and enriching – if you follow these steps and choose happy, comfortable and joyful everyday.

You are more powerful than you can imagine and more loved than you would ever believe. Don’t stop until you bring those two truths into focus, humbly and with gratitude.

As always if you have questions, just ask . . . . .

Thank you for your insights. Well said! It can be hard to do but necessary the way the world is at this time. And remember to take time to ground and center yourself. Some days, it may be several tmes. But much needed. Thank you.
