Hurricane Ian has continued to strengthen and is bringing significant threats to areas of Tampa Bay and Florida's Gulf Coast that don't normally see such headlines, but they're worth acting upon: Life-threatening storm surge and catastrophic winds and flooding are expected, the National Hurricane Center said.
As of the 11 a.m. advisory, Hurricane Ian is continuing to gain strength as an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm. It is located about 45 miles west of Naples, Florida, with sustained winds of 155 mph — just two miles per hour away from being a Category 5 hurricane.
