Move over yogurt! If you want food that's good for your gut, you've got to try Kefir.

It can be tricky (and expensive) to find in the stores, so we turned to Bonnie Penner to get some tips on making our own at home. Here is her simple, DIY recipe for Kefir.

Ready to start fermenting your own batch? You'll need some kefir babies. Bonnie suggests asking around at your local farmer's market and checking out sites like Craigslist and Kijiji. We Googled "kefir" with each of the tuja city names and were able to find local connections - no problem.

Once you have some starter grains, you'll never need to look again - but that doesn't mean you can't share. You'll be amazed how vibrant the kefir community is once you step into it!

Cheers to your happy gut!

Thanks for posting this! Great trick about stirring the kefir. If you are going to travel what is the best way to store your kefir granules?
