Back in the chill of March we presented our neighbours with "Giizhig".Giizhig (the Anishinaabemowin - Ojibway word for “cedar”, and pronounced “gee zhig”) is used for protection, purification and bringing balance into yourself. It is also known for attracting positive feelings, energy, and emotions. Something that was important to share with you all.We hope those positive vibes are felt when you watch our video and hear the powerful words by Canadian Poet of Honor Mahlikah The Moonrise Poet, who is sharing powerful words about Grand Mother Cedar. This project, directed by Michael Caldwell, allowed us to dance, share cedar tea and connected with our neighbours on the eve of the spring equinox. Did you participate with us? If you did we would love for you to share your experience in the comments. We hope this short video will touch your hearts, and bring smiles and depth to your day."Giizhigh is a moment of calm, a meeting, an exchange, a smile... it's a journey through and into community, a brief encounter for connection and reflection. It's a conversation between our urban landscape and the natural environment.Throughout this movement-based, traveling performance, GIIZHIG brings community together while physically apart, uplifting our spirits through our shared senses and with our collective imaginations.”CREDITS:Director: Michael CaldwellArtistic advisor: Isorine MarcCreated with and performed by: Aria Evans, Irma Villafuerte, Jane Alison McKinney, Jim (Many Hats) Adams and Michael CaldwellPoem by: Mahlikah The Moonrise Poet Video (filming and editing): Laura DittmannProduced and presented by: Jamii EsplanadeIn partnership with: Canadian StageFunded by: Ontario Government
